Shannon Pable of Gwinnett Master Gardeners was awarded first place honors in the Georgia Gems Garden Design Contest, a statewide competition sponsored by the University of Georgia Center for Urban Agriculture and the UGA Research Foundation.

A Gwinnett Master Gardener, Pable designed a garden for the Gwinnett Environmental & Heritage Center. In addition to her first place honors, Pable will receive the Georgia GEMS plants specified in her design.

"Shannon's peaceful garden design combines a rich pallet of color and textures with the soft sounds of a water feature," Bauske said. "The garden has excellent balance and good scale, characteristics difficult to achieve in a small garden. Cleaver repetition, not only of plants, but of form and texture as well, and the thoughtful maintenance and irrigation plan put this design over the top."
